What do I need to do if my child is going to be absent from school?

If your child is absent please advise the school in an email with a detailed explanation. If your child is going to be absent for more than 3 days you need to complete an application for extended leave form at least a week before your departure. One form per child is required and all 3 pages need to be completed in full.

Do I need to do anything if my child is late for school or needs to be collected early?

If your child arrives late or needs to be collected from school early please visit the office to sign them in/out. This is a legal requirement to protect your child.

When and what time are assemblies?

Assemblies are held  on Friday. Assemblies run from 12.55pm - 1.30pm.

Does Ultimo Public School have a canteen?

Our school does not have a canteen. Students will need to bring recess and lunch each day.

What if my child does not have any recess or lunch?

Your child will be given a note from their teacher to obtain a sandwich.

What if I cannot pay for school contributions, excursions or uniforms?

We have a student assistance scheme in place. At no time should financial concerns prevent any of our students from participating in school programs.  School fees, uniforms, excursion and performance costs can attract financial assistance, as some funding is available to assist in cases of genuine financial need. Please contact the Principal to make arrangements for confidential financial support.

How do I arrange for a meeting with my child’s class teacher?

Teachers are available for meetings with parents at mutually convenient times. Please arrange meetings beforehand via email.

Does the school provide Special Religious Education (SRE) lessons?

Members of various religious organisations conduct SRE lessons once a week. Parents nominate the religious group they wish their child to attend. Those children not attending SRE have the option to participate in Ethics or Non-Scripture. Once your choice has been made, it cannot be changed until the following year.

If I change my contact details do I need to inform the school?

It is essential that you inform the office and the class teacher of any change of contact details relating to your child. This included mobile numbers, emergency contacts and home addresses. This is particularly important in case of sickness or accident.

Does my child have to wear a hat?

At Ultimo Public school we expect that all children wear a hat when they are outside. Broad-brimmed hats are available from the uniform shop.

What if my child loses something valuable at school?

All valuables should remain at home. Student mobile phones must be signed in to the office on arrival. Please do not allow your child to bring toys, games or cards to school. We have a rule that no toys are to be brought to school which protects from theft, loss and playground squabbles.

Does my child have to go on school excursions or attend performances?

Excursions are planned to enrich the learning experience and all children participate. For all excursions where students leave the school, permission notes are required. All notes and money for excursions and performances must be handed into the class teacher at least three days before the excursion date as this assists in organisation.
